Counter Strike 1.6 is a classic multiplayer FPS running directly in your browser on PC and mobile. Pick a server in Europe or the USA, join a team and play without downloading anything.

How to play

There are nine game modes in Counter Strike 1.6, and they play pretty differently. Bomb Defusal is the familiar team mode where one side plants a bomb and the other tries to stop it. Hostage Rescue is about getting hostages to safety. Both use rounds and a buy menu, so spending all your money after every loss isn't exactly smart.

For aim practice, try AIM maps or Deathmatch, where you respawn almost instantly. Gun Game gives you a new weapon after each elimination, starting with a pistol and ending with a knife. Death Run and BHOP are more about movement. The first has traps controlled by another player, while BHOP tests your jumping skills against the clock. Hide and Seek is basically a chase across the map, and SuperHero adds powers that unlock as you level up. Batman and Spider-Man in Counter Strike? Yep, that's a thing.

You can jump straight into a match with Quick Play or browse servers by region and mode. A nickname is assigned automatically, and you can change it in your profile after signing in. Friends can join through a server link.

• Use AIM or Deathmatch servers to practice before competitive rounds
• Save money when your team cannot afford a decent buy
• In BHOP, checkpoints let you return to earlier positions
